Scanned Slides of the 1965 Sawtooths Expedition (Unearthed on occasion of return to Idaho Rendezvous, 40 summers later!)
The 2684 image shows 9733' Grand Mogul & 10229' Heyburn Mountain from halfway across 6547' Redfish Lake SW of Stanley Scenes along the 8 mile pack in along Redfish Creek, Sawtooths of Idaho (Image 2688A) View SE from 9940' col S of unnamed 10272' pinnacle towards adjacent jagged 10480' unnamed peak. Day 3 of 1965 SOS Sawtooth Wilderness Expedition. View from S col of yours truly on ledge below final direct-aid (upper) wall of E face of 10272' unnamed pinnacle, from the S col. image #2702A is a view of the E face of the 10272' unnamed pinnacle we were climbing, from the S col. Image #2706A is a view E of a section of the very jagged granite ridge N of Mount Cramer above lovely 8820' Bear Paw Lake on the hike in to climb Mount Cramer Image #2721A is a final view of the very jagged granitic ridge N of Mt. Cramer and 'yours truly' after our descent of the N? couloir of Mt. Cramer. Great fun!!! Image #2719A is a view SW and down toward a snowfield and icy lakelet at the base of the SW couloir of Mount Cramer. Anyone for glissading...? Image #2708A is a more distant view of the same pinnacle (center) and peak 10480' (R) taken the next day as we approached our main objective, 10716' Mount Cramer (which is off the right side of the image, after a long jagged ridge - more later). Image 2693A is south (R) of the 2692A image, & shows a 10579' peak & another 10480' peak on the long ridge to our main objective - 10716' Mount Cramer (far right), which we climbed the day after the 10272' peak. Both shots were taken the first evening after our packin to our highcamp at the
8381' Upper Cramer Lake, which was nestled just below (W of) the 10272' peak/pinnacle. The rather dramatic golden alpine glow resulted from a spectacular collapse/avalanche of some unseen rockwall on some peak somewhere above camp that released huge clouds of rockdust! It was quite an impressive introduction to our first night in the Sawtooth Wilderness!! Hope we don't see it again...
