MUTINY OF THE BOUNTY
The Simian proletariate
seems to be restless again!!! Tribal representative CC has been applying
pressures again for a complete financial accounting (or "heads will roll",
he says. So for the sake of tribal unity and harmony our anarchical
state will be documented now......
Chuck won't
believe this but our income is down considerably this fall--due to ususally
poor weather.....after a successful Activity Days
exhibit (over 150 people signed up) the first
scheduled outing was rained out
(Oct. 8). Finally on Oct. 15 a beginners'
outing was held at Portland Arch,
with 23 Simians participating (well, really
22, as Fred ? spent the day
sleeping off the night before)! The next
weekend saw 3 outings--the first
caving outing, and climbing outings to PA and
Devil's Lake, Wisc. (with 7 at
each). On Oct. 29 some 10 brave Simians
challenged the rainy, cool weather
and climbed at PA; a small group also went
caving in Indiana. The next
weekend PA[?] outing was called off (1 lone
smian showed up in the cold
and blustery weather) but a hardy handful of
5 weathered the snow at Devils Lake (and the poor fare at local movie
theatres...). Stan was in his glory, of course, with numb fingers and
frozen hands--not to mention Steve's great
exhilaration!! And as usual, some simians
retreated to the warm, inviting (?) bowels of mother earth... On the
weekend of Nov. 11-12 your faithful (?) FL took his fateful (?) step in DeKalb.
Many thanks to all those simians who were able to journey up to see his demise.
The weather was clear and bright
and Sunny, so 6 faithful simians climbed at
PA. FL did not go caving (rumor)..

SOS CHRISTMAS PARTY
Time is running out fast
this fall---Christmas is nearly upon us once
again. Aside from being a time of great
rejoicing and festivities (in the
mountains of course...), it is time for all
simians to come to the aid
of their tribe--in planning the Annual Traditional
SOS Xmas Party!!! Mainly,
When? and Where? Likely dates are Dec.
15 or 16 (Fri. or Sat.). Let's hear!
MIG-27
Already some 27 Untermenschen
from the now defunct SSS have banded
together (with their arm bands Brown from cave
mud...) to form the Mid Illinois Grotto. This will presently be recognized
by the NSS and will follow NSS rules and regulations. MIG intends to
publish official (serious) Newsletter for national distribution-with feature
articles, cave maps and info, and histories of MIG expeditions. Membership
is $2 but no outing fees are charge(d). Grotto members will occasional
lead caving trips for beginners; the usual 25cent Simian outing fee will
still be charged for non-members of MIG. Eventually those who are seriously
interested in caving will probably want to join MIG. Upcoming trips
may include exploring/mapping in Missouri caves over Thanksgiving,
and a trip to Mexico to do some big pits over semester-break.
